Charlton Athletic travel to Vale Park on Tuesday evening, for a 7.45 pm kick-off against Port Vale.
Charlton Athletic Doubts:
The Addicks are looking to bring a full and healthy squad to Vale Park, with the only injury, being the long-term Ahmed Kashi with an Achilles injury.
Before the game on Saturday, Kevin Foley and Jordan Botaka failed late fitness tests but could now be in contention for a place in the squad.
Port Vale Doubts:
Port Vale’s biggest concern is the fitness and physical health of midfielder, Sam Foley (I believe there is no relation with our Kevin Foley). On Saturday Sam Foley hobbled off the pitch in pain with an ankle injury which was picked up against Sheffield United.
Lastly, Anton Forrester is not looking likely to be in the squad either, due to a hamstring issue.
Charlton Athletic Squad Switches:
Skipper Johnnie Jackson came on as a substitute on Saturday, and could start on Tuesday evening if Slade is looking to make a possible change.
However, after a performance which saw his side show potency and fluidity not witnessed since the victory against Shrewsbury, it is looking likely Slade will retain and play the same squad which was deployed against Coventry City on the weekend, which secured a 3-0 win.
Port Vale Squad Switches:
After Port Vale suffering an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on the weekend, manager Bruno Ribeiro will most likely make switches to his squad for Tuesday.
Within the Port Vale armory, Ribeiro has Rigino Cicilia, Chris Mbamba, Francisco Kiko and Quentin Pereira to switch into the squad in order to try an engineer a positive result against the Addicks.
Paulo Tavares will be looking to infiltrate the squad, after being overlooked by Ribeiro against the Blades, despite being available as his suspension period had come to an end.
Charlton Starting XI Prediction:
Goalkeeper: Declan Rudd
Defenders: Chris Solly, Patrick Bauer, Jason Pearce, Morgan Fox
Midfielders: Ricky Holmes, Fredrik Ulvestad, Johnnie Jackson (C), Ademola Lookman
Strikers: Josh Magennis, Nicky Ajose
Formation: 4-4-2 (Attacking) – switch to 4-5-1 once the game has been killed by bringing Andrew Crofts on from the bench.
- After seeing Lee Novak perform on Saturday he is not fit enough and I do not think he offers much.
- Ricky Holmes and Ademola Lookman to drive down the wings and feed balls into Josh Magennis and Nicky Ajose, as well as create chances of their own.
- Fredik Ulvestad to play box-to-box and be the core component in the midfield engine.
- Johnnie Jackson to play as a holding midfielder.
- Chris Solly and Morgan Fox to play as wing backs.
Port Vale are going to be lacking confidence after the 4-0 defeat to Sheffield United, but will have a point to prove and will be looking to swiftly redeem themselves after Saturday. However, Russell Slade’s men will still be buzzing and full of confidence from the 3-0 victory against Coventry City and should be able to steal it.
Port Vale 1 – 2 Charlton Athletic
COME ON YOU REDS, COME ON YOU ADDICKS, COME ON CHARLTON ATHLETIC!
