Charlton’s top goal scorer could be set to depart in January

According to the Coventry Telegraph, the recent Charlton manager Russell Slade is looking to take Nicky Ajose with him to Coventry City.

Despite the fact that Ajose netted 24 goals for Swindon Town last season, he has not initiated a similar form at The Valley as of yet.

Nicky Ajose has scored a total of seven goals for the Addicks, six of them being in the League, and one in the Checkatrade Trophy – making him our top goal scorer.

In the coming months (if he was to stay) we could see Ajose begin to net more goals, and find a prolific form, but this will all depend on Karl Robinson overhauling our midfield.

Currently our midfield is extremely aged, with not much creative flair, but if we were to reverse this via January signings, Ajose may find more scoring opportunities through an increase of chances being fed to him through the middle.

Therefore, if we were to lose Ajose it could be a massive mistake. However, I do think he can be replaced, and an increase in his form is partially dependent on Robinson’s overhaul of our midfield in January.
